Once Upon a Time in California

The Pacific coast at midday, where sunlight flattens the horizon and bleaches the blue of sea into sky. Ludwig Favre works the line between land and water, returning to the same stretches of sand and surf again and again. The figures here,surfers catching waves, walkers on paved paths, couples seated on green benches,are framed by the architecture of awnings and palm trees, their shadows stretching long in the high light. There is a palette of deep greens, bright blues, and the pale beige of sun-bleached wood, all held under skies that shift from overcast to clear without warning.
