    Ludwig Favre photographs the main reading room of the San Francisco Civic Center library, a Beaux-Arts building completed in 1917 and renovated into the present main branch in 1996. The image holds the long perspective of the room: marble floors, banker's lamps, the quiet architecture of attention. Favre photographs civic interiors the way he photographs hotels, square to the geometry, holding the frame still until the room is itself.
