Ludwig Favre photographs the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, a California amusement park that has been operating on the Pacific coast since 1907. The painted rides, the salt-bleached letters, the crowds in summer-faded clothes: Favre approaches it as one of the great surviving vernaculars of the American twentieth century. The image is part of his Pacific coast series, returning every few years to the same boardwalks to watch how the paint and the crowds change.
