In 2017 Ludwig Favre photographed the Pigalle basketball court in Paris, a small painted rectangle wedged between Haussmannian façades in the 9th arrondissement. The frame holds the court level, letting the gradient of pinks, blues and oranges run end to end against the gray of the surrounding buildings. The image belongs to Favre's continuing urban-sport series, photographed across Paris, San Francisco, Hong Kong and New York, a quiet study in how cities give over their leftover ground to color and play.
