    Ludwig Favre photographs a pink motel in Palm Springs at dusk, its low buildings wrapped around a kidney-shaped pool, white loungers lined up along the water and tall palms reflected on the surface. He photographs the place not for nostalgia but for what it still is, a working object, painted and repainted, holding its color in the last light of the day. The image is part of his larger California series on motels and the long American shoulder of the road.
