Ludwig Favre photographs a room of the Caribbean Motel in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey, where palm tree decals, woven wallpaper and floral bedspreads stage a deliberate evocation of paradise. The light is flat and even, revealing every surface with equal weight: the grass-cloth wall, the yellow headboards, the paper lantern, the knotty pine. The image belongs to his exploration of mid-century interiors, where decoration and function converge in a language of kitsch.
