The Wonder Wheel has turned over Coney Island since 1920, and Ludwig Favre has photographed it on several visits to Brooklyn. The image holds the wheel still against the sea sky: red spokes, painted cars, the geometry of a piece of mechanical joy that has outlived most of its neighbors. Favre's New York work returns regularly to the city's edges, where the architecture of pleasure ages slower than the architecture of business. Pictured here, the Wheel on a clear morning.
