Late summer on a California coast, when the light lingers low and golden across sand and water. Ludwig Favre moves along the line where quiet streets meet the shore, palm trees cast long shadows over sidewalks, lifeguard towers stand silhouetted against hazy skies, and the air is thick with the weight of heat. A lone surfer carries a board through the wet sand while others paddle near the shore; the water’s surface reflects the sky in soft, diffused light. The photographs accumulate a particular rhythm: the angle where sunlight hits a palm tree’s trunk, the way a row of orange-painted beach huts aligns with the horizon, the texture of low-slung buildings along the promenade. There is no narrative beyond the movement of figures and the play of light on sand, wood, and water.
