On a desert highway in the American West, Ludwig Favre stopped at a roadside diner in the patient light of late afternoon: painted lettering, dust on the pavement, a single pickup parked at the right of the frame. The image belongs to his long American road series. Favre approaches diners as portraits of the country they sit in, photographing them without the customers and letting the architecture stand for the place.
