French photographer Ludwig Favre returns to Palm Springs as part of his ongoing study of mid-century California desert architecture. Photographed at first light, when the San Jacinto range still holds its night blue and the town's pink stucco begins to take the day's first warmth, this image belongs to a long catalogue of houses, hotels, and palms that built the postwar idea of the American West. Favre describes the hour as the only one in which Palm Springs is still being colored in.
