Ludwig Favre photographs a Los Angeles façade carrying a single painted word, Sundaes, in the flat heat of three o'clock. The image is part of his long Los Angeles project on the city's hand-painted vernacular, store signs, awnings, painted blocks of color that have survived the city's many redecorations. Favre treats these façades as portraits of their neighborhoods, standing back to keep the geometry square and letting the California sun do the rest.
