Palm Springs Prints: Mid-Century Modernism and Desert Light

Palm Springs has been a desert retreat since the 1920s, and from the 1950s architects such as Albert Frey, Richard Neutra and William F. Cody turned it into a laboratory of mid-century modern design. Ludwig Favre has returned to the city for several years to photograph what remains of that era: motel pools painted pink, hotels facing the mountains, low houses with their carports and the cars that were designed for them.

The series includes Palm Springs, Sunrise, a turquoise pool and orange umbrellas at first light, Palm Springs, Desert Sunrise with its palms and mountains, the Pink Motel at dusk, the Joie de Vivre hotel and classic cars parked under the palms. The story behind the series is told in Palm Springs Through the Lens.
